Lee feeling the effects of shooting up on speed and heroin combined.
Lee 40 years of age and has lived homeless now for 6 years stands having a coffee out the front of a homeless center called Harp, where he currently lives, others wait patiently as Harp opens there door at 9 to rough sleepers and people in need to have showers and hot breakfast.
Harp was established in 2002 to help the every growing homeless situation, for the last 17 years Harp has grown into a Lucrative business, government grants, council grants, donations have helped Harp become the leading organization they are today, Harps portfolio of houses and rooms allows a homeless person to be guided into the right direction, subsequently getting people of the streets. But it does not work for everybody, alcoholic and drug users find the system hard to comprehend due to the lack of understanding when it comes to rehabilitation, for example, Carl is a long time user of drugs, he has this year just come out of the rehabilitation program the Harp is running, Carl hold me that it made him feel good about himself and he could see the positive effects that it had on him, Harp moved Carl into another building where he was no longer around people that could Monitor him, this made Carl extremely vulnerable, because of the house he was put into, Carl feels that he has taken a step backward, the support I feel is not there Carl said, I’m in a house where there are others that suffer with drug problems, all it takes is a trigger point, something that mite bring temptation, its been 5 months since I have been away from rehabilitation, I had plans of becoming a barber, I started a course to become one, its my dream, once I have finished the course I would like to go to Harp and offer my services to help other homeless and people that are in the same position as I was, Unfortunately Carl did not finish the course, Carl came university where he was studying to become a barber, he had brought everything he needed to become a barber, but Harp has a rule that states that no shape objects are allowed inside the rooms, meaning that Carl was unable to take his newly brought barber kit with him to his room, the next day Carl went to leave to go to school, he asked the office for his barber kit, the office looked for it but couldn’t find it leaving Carl empty handed without his tools, Carl went anyway but was told my the teacher that he needed his barber kit to be able to continue on with the course, for Carl this was a trigger point of stress, his failure, instead of being determined, Carl simply picked up some crack cocaine and went off and smoked it, after smoking it Carl said that he felt guilty, he rang the counsellor at Harp, the counsellor ask Carl to come and see him and gave him a time that suited the counsellor, Carl said that is a week a way, what am I meant to do in the mean time, unfortunately Carl is slipping back into his ways, chasing the drug instead of his dreams, Carl is fight the fight of his life, he understands that if he is to continue down the path that he is heading that he may loose the house he is in, Harp see this as a violation within their practices, which may see Carl living on the streets again.
